Transport fuel safely, economically
The design, registered with Transport Canada - Safety and Security - Dangerous Goods, meets the requirements of the National Standard of Canada (CAN/CGSB 43.15095) for United Nations Performance Packaging.
The Scepter Corporation has been furnishing military units around the world with its 20-litre Military Fuel Can (MFC) and the rugged features integrated into the product construction have more than held their own in this extreme environment. Alan Newman, military products manager for Scepter, advises, "the United States army, while conducting tests of fuel containers, noted that, even in an intense fire, the Scepter tanks would not explode; a major selling point to convince the army to replace the old standard metal jerrycans with the new all-plastic one:"
Additional improvements over the metal container include weight reduction (only 3 kg), low noise handling, and permanent coloring.
The company has been approached by Transport Canada on several occasions to make the product available to the civil aviation community and last November the civilian version of the tank was launched.
Tim Mell, vice-president, marketing for Gas-Transit Sales, said, "essentially the only difference between the military and the civilian tank is the color, with the civilian model available in blaze orange to ensure high visibility, which is not exactly a military requirement."
They are virtually indestructible under extreme handling conditions and the design qualification specifies leak testing at temperatures ranging from 60°C to -32°C. The unique Viton® gasket and fully integrated air vent ensure a complete vapor seal. While in storage or during transportation there is no risk of gasoline vapor emissions, eliminating potential fire or health hazards.
General aviation applications for the system include extending aircraft range and ensuring supply of adequate emergency fuel reserves, as well as transportation of fuel into hard to access areas in support of land-based operations, in addition to cost savings applicable to aircraft refueling in remote areas.
Measuring 18.5 inches high, 14 inches wide and six inches deep, the Gas-Transit will fit into most commercially available aircraft floats. Ultralight flyers will benefit from the same utilization, as well as serving their particular need of fueling their aircraft from home.
The retail price of the fuel tanks is $44.9 and the pour spout is priced at $15.95.
