Thomson-CSF Sextant wins avionics retrofit business with UK operators
British Airways will retrofit Kannad 406 ATP emergency locator transmitters (ELTs) from Thomson-CSF Sextant on its entire fleet, including the Concorde, A320, Boeing 777, 767, 757, 747-400, 747-200, 737-400, 737-300, and 737-500.
A total of 370 ELTs will be delivered, starting in the fourth quarter of this year and continuing through 2001. Thomson-CSF Sextant markets and supports the Kannad 406 ELT, manufactured by French company SERPE-IESM.
Britannia Airways, a charter airline, chose Sextant's Integrated Electronic Standby Instrument (IESI) for retrofit aboard its fleet of 50 Boeing B737-800, -757, and B767-300s. Installation will begin next year on the B767-300.
The IESI integrates standby attitude, speed, and altitude functions, replacing the conventional electromechanical indicators. It incorporates the company's in-house technologies, such as the liquid crystal displays developed by subsidiary Thomson-LCD, and silicium pressure sensors.
