Third International Airport Selects VTS Software For US Customs Pre-Clearance Facility

Trihedral Engineering Limited is proud to announce that Edmonton International Airport has completed installation of a new VTS-based Baggage Image Weight Identification System (BIWIS) at their United States Customs Pre-clearance Facility.
The system, developed with VTS HMI software, includes a direct high-speed interface to the security camera and weight scale that collect baggage information of passengers traveling through Edmonton on their way to destinations in the United States. It displays summarized information for US customs agents at primary inspection points to help them determine which travelers are candidates for secondary inspections.
Officials at Edmonton International Airport became interested in Trihedral's VTS-based pre-clearance solution after learning about an installation that has been in use at Halifax's Robert L. Stanfield International Airport since 2007. That application also includes integrated baggage conveyor systems. A third VTS BIWIS system is currently undergoing trials at an international airport in Europe.
The VTS BIWIS system was accepted for use by US customs agents after demonstrating compliance with the stringent performance and privacy standards set out by US Customs and Border Protection. The end result is increased security and a smoother and more efficient traveling experience for passengers.
