Thales Avionics to supply systems for Eurocopter EC635

Thales Avionics Ltd. is to supply its AMS 2000 Control Display and Navigation Unit (CDNU) avionics management system for use on board the EC635, following the award of a contract from Eurocopter (Germany). For a total of nine EC635 helicopters destined for the Portuguese Ministry of Defence, the CDNUs will provide advanced cockpit management, radio control and navigation capabilities. The deliveries, set to take place towards the end of this year, will also include a secure GPS capability.

John Mountifield, marketing director of Thales Avionics Ltd, commented: "This first selection of the AMS 2000 CDNU for the EC635 variant marks a considerable seal of approval for the product. Thales Avionics along with its sister aerospace companies in Thales is currently examining the ways to offer its customers enhanced product capabilities, through a variety of cross fertilisation opportunities."

The CDNU being supplied to Portugal has wide ranging growth potential for integration with other avionics and communications systems. For SAR and offshore helicopter operations in particular, the company's STR (Satellite Transceiver) and the new successor MCS 4000 SATCOM system along with the CDNU have proved to be a valuable enhancement to flight safety on RAF real-time helicopter tracking trials. The low weight and volume CDNU, is installed on Royal Navy Sea King, MK4, 5, 6, Lynx HMA 8, the Merlin and RAF Sea Kings and Nimrods in a variety of other applications.
