Structural Research & Analysis Corp., developers of the COSMOS/TM suite of design analysis products today announced the release of the AC Magnetic module of COSMOS/EMS. This latest addition allows analysis of a variety of applications, including transformers, electric motors, induction machines, eddy-current braking systems, induction heating, and circuit breakers.

COSMOS/EMS, which is based on the Finite Element Method (FEM), provides answers to physical equations without any simplifications or assumptions. The AC Magnetic Analysis calculates the effects of alternating currents (AC) or voltages in electromagnetic devices. These effects include skin effects, eddy currents, and power loss due to eddy currents.

"COSMOS/EMS provides great insight in the design of electrical devices. Users of 3D CAD are examining the fundamental electromagnetic behavior of their CAD designs without any simplifications. AC Magnetic module expands the scope of design verification for a whole new set of applications and devices," said Suchit Jain, VP of Marketing for SRAC.

COSMOS/EMS is fully embedded in COSMOS/DesignSTAR, which interfaces with leading CAD and solid modeling packages such as Autodesk® Mechanical Desktop, Inventor, Solid Edge®, and SolidWorks®. COSMOS/EMS includes:
o Electrostatic Analysis
o Electric conduction Analysis
o Magnetostatic Analysis
o AC Magnetic Analysis
