RTI goes live on Deltek Time Collection
Research Triangle Institute (RTI), a large and independent research organization serving the public and private sectors, recently went live on Deltek Time Collection for collecting and tracking labor data using RTI's Intranet. RTI employees worldwide now have direct and easy access to a unified system for faster time collection and processing, and project managers are seeing improved accuracy and better tracking of labor charges and related costs.
"We have multiple offices and a large number of employees located around the world, from the U.S. and the U.K. to third-world countries," observes RTI's Director of Information Systems, Karen Davis. " Deltek Time Collection meets our critical needs for being easily accessible over our Intranet, and for providing ready access to labor-related project information. Deltek's solution also helped RTI to greatly reduce the amount of paper used in the time collection process, and has significantly increased the accuracy of managers' labor cost reports."
Since going live last August, RTI now has over 1,800 employees using the system and over 30,000 active tasks at any one time. "Under the old system," says Davis, "it would take two to three employees up to two days, twice a month to manually enter timesheets. Now each employee is essentially doing his/her own timesheet and can only charge valid project numbers. This allows accuracy to begin with the employee."
Data integrity and consistency ensured by combining products
RTI is also a longtime user of Deltek Costpoint, the enterprise level software suite for large organizations with complex project, accounting and business requirements. By combining it with Deltek Time Collection, RTI has achieved true systems integration. "This is enabling us to ensure data integrity and consistency system-wide," Davis emphasizes, "while providing clear and complete audit trails for increased efficiency and accountability."
RTI chose Deltek Time Collection's Web component after thoroughly evaluating solutions from other vendors. "We discovered that few of the software products on the market deliver an integrated, Web-enabled time collection solution designed specifically for professional services firms and government contracting organizations like RTI," notes Davis. " Deltek Time Collection was the only solution that could handle 1,800 plus timesheets, including those from remote locations, every two weeks, understand government contracts, run on SQL Server® and adapt to our unique business processes."
