Precise Flight, Inc. SpeedBrakes receive STC from FAA for Lancair Columbia 300
Lancair recently took extraordinary efforts to ensure perfection for the placement of the SpeedBrakes™. With both companies working together, every element of the design was meticulously handled to ensure performance and safety. Scott Philiben, Vice President of Engineering said, "Here at Precise Flight, we make every effort to work closely with manufacturers to ensure quick turn-around time from the design phases to initial delivery. We as a company strive to understand the needs and requirements of each manufacturer we have a relationship with."
What makes the Lancair speed brake design and installation special is the result of hundreds of engineering hours at both Lancair and Precise Flight. The SpeedBrakes™ are electronically deployed through a logic control unit to prevent malfunction. If one side should not deploy, the other side would retract immediately. If power-on stalls are performed, the SpeedBrakes™ retract automatically. In addition, in the unlikely event of
asymmetrical deployment, the condition can be counteracted with only a small amount of aileron input. Both companies are so confident of this design that the warranty on these brakes has been extended to five years.
With power on in a descent, it gives pilots the ability to have precise control of their aircraft making it easier to observe ATC descent clearances, crossing restrictions, and correct altitude and speed in no time while maintaining appropriate engine temperatures. The SpeedBrakes™ also help to reduce landing roll. Actual descent rate for the Lancair at 180 knots is 1,500 feet per minute.
SpeedBrake Specifications: Weight 8.5 lbs., Switch: Rocker switch activated.
SpeedBrakes™ are also available for the Glasair, Beech 33, 35, 36, Cessna 177 RG, 180, 182, 185, 206, 210 series, Piper PA-24, PA-28, PA-30, PA-32, PA-39, PA-46 and Mooney aircraft and can also be designed and manufactured for other small production aircraft.
Precise Flight will have a booth at the EAA AirVenture in Exhibit Hangar B, Booth 2139/2140.
