Next-Generation Traffic Surveillance System
The CAS 100 Traffic Surveillance System, based on the former AlliedSignal TCAS product line, is designed to save space. Its TPA-100A processor is either a 4 MCU (124mm by 194mm by 324mm, 4.88 by 7.64 by 12.76 inches) or a 6 MCU (190.5mm by 194mm by 324mm, 7.5 by 7.64 by 12.76 inches) box to retrofit existing aircraft. As an alternative, customers can choose the TPL-100A surveillance processor, which integrates the TCAS processor and mode S transponder in a single 4 MCU box.
Range for the prototype is 100 nautical miles using active TCAS surveillance. The system will also support Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) which will enable additional traffic detection range.
The CAS-100 TCAS family of products can be integrated with Honeywell's Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) to provide SmartAlerting, a feature which shares data between the TCAS and EGPWS to provide both traffic and terrain data.
The company says it plans to apply for FAA certification of the stand-alone TPA-100A TCAS processor at the end of 2001 and for the TPL-100A combination TCAS processor and mode S transponder about nine months later.
