What is MCT?

Metal Core Technology™ (MCT) is CoreTech's proprietary combination of process, equipment, tooling and software that supports the production of hollow one-piece, internally complex plastic components.

It offers reliable and consistent production of plastic components that require:

  • Complex internal geometry
  • Accurate dimensions (internal and external)
  • Controlled plastic part wall thickness
  • Smooth or engineered internal surface finish

Utilizing MCT, molders can produce parts in a wide range of thermoplastic and thermoset resins, including composites.

MCT is a proven, cost-effective production method competitive in today's marketplace. It is environmentally safe for operator and plant.

Who should use MCT?

Virtually anyone who specifies, designs or manufactures internally complex hollow plastic parts can benefit from MCT.

  • Engineer can now design one-piece parts with undercut areas that cannot be formed by conventional pulls in the plastic tool.
  • Molders can expand their capabilities and achieve lower component manufacturing costs from savings in material and a reduction in manufacturing and finishing operations.
  • Those not yet producing one-piece hollow plastic parts should consider MCT as the technology that leads to new business opportunities.
  • Manufacturers of metal components who are losing market share due to the increasing use of plastic as the material of choice should consider MCT.
  • Companies producing metal components targeted for use in aggressive environments can replace them with composites.

Why use MCT?

Metal Core Technology offers:

  • Increased flexibility in the design of hollow parts that were once considered too complex for single-piece molding.
  • Combining of multiple plastic parts into a single molded component.
  • Accuracy of internal component geometry assured by metal core repeatability to 0.0015" per dimension.
  • Ability to vary wall thickness in components.
  • Pre-placement of high temperature composite or metal inserts into the plastic part by using the metal core as a transfer medium.
