Malaysia Airlines Group (MAG) Unveils First A330neo Aircraft, Ushering In New Era Of Air Travel

Kuala Lumpur /PRNewswire - Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) today marked a significant milestone in its fleet modernization strategy by unveiling its first A330-900 (A330neo) aircraft at a launching event held at Hangar 6 at the MAB Engineering Complex. The introduction of this new aircraft demonstrates MAG’s unwavering commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and providing enhanced comfort and service to its passengers.

The aircraft, registered with number 9M -MNG, was officially unveiled in the presence of Malaysian Transport Minister YB Loke Siew Fook, MAG’s major shareholder Khazanah Nasional Berhad Managing Director Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir and MAG’s Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail. The aircraft will make its inaugural flight to Melbourne on flight MH149 at 10.30pm (local time) today before progressively operating long-haul routes including to Australasia.

The new A330neo is the latest aircraft to join Malaysia Aviation Group’s (MAG) growing fleet, with a total of 20 aircraft scheduled for delivery by 2028, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Avolon in August 2022. Powered by Rolls- Royce Trent 7000 engines, the aircraft incorporates the latest innovations in aerodynamics and advanced materials technology to reduce fuel burn and carbon emissions by 14 per cent compared to previous generation aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines Group’s (MAG) A330neo aircraft features a total of 297 seats (28 in Business Class and 269 in Economy Class), including 24 Economy Class seats with extra legroom. The newly designed Collins Aerospace Elevation Business Class seat, configured in a 1-2-1 herringbone configuration, is the group’s first all-suite cabin with a dedicated privacy door, with practicality and comfort as top priorities.

The new A330neo aircraft will enhance the travel experience with advanced features such as the industry-leading FlightPath3D moving map system, the most interactive system in MAG’s entire fleet, providing real-time tracking and detailed journey information, giving passengers a new way to explore the skies. And in keeping with our family-friendly approach, the inflight entertainment system will feature a ‘Kids Mode’ to keep children entertained throughout the journey.

Passengers can enjoy comprehensive travel guides highlighting the culture and history of the destinations the aircraft flies to, and free high-speed Wi-Fi is available at all seats on board, regardless of class or membership level. In addition, business class passengers can enjoy light snacks at any time through SkySnacks, a self-service concept.

At the same event, Malaysia Airlines announced an exclusive partnership with Mercedes-Benz from January 2025. Eligible passengers will be able to travel in style in premium comfort in electric vehicles, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC and the Mercedes-Benz S 580 e Plug-in Hybrid. The service will be provided as a dedicated transfer between the Main Terminal Building and the Satellite Building at KLIA Terminal 1, and Malaysia Airlines is the only airline to offer this service.

Malaysia Airlines Group (MAG) currently operates a total of 107 aircraft, including subsidiaries such as Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and MASkargo. Going forward, the group plans to expand its fleet to 62 small aircraft and 52 large aircraft by 2033. The fifth Boeing 737-8 aircraft was delivered in mid-December, with the remaining 20 aircraft scheduled to be delivered between 2025 and 2026.
