LanzaJet Announces Strategic Investment From Airbus - Breakthrough 'Space' And Aircraft Manufacturer
The investment by the world's largest aircraft manufacturer is further evidence of strong industry support for the ability of LanzaJet's next-gen technology to scale sustainable aviation fuel globally
Chicago, IL /PRNewswire/ - LanzaJet, a leading sustainable fuel technology company and producer of sustainable fuels, today announced a strategic investment from Airbus, a global leader and frontrunner in the aerospace industry. The investment will enable LanzaJet to further build on the capabilities and scalability of its proprietary ethanol to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) process technology.
“LanzaJet has purposefully developed a diverse portfolio of strategic investors, comprised of leading global companies, which provides the necessary ecosystem to scale the SAF industry,” said Jimmy Samartzis , Chief Executive Officer of LanzaJet . “This significant investment from Airbus will support the growth of our business and allow LanzaJet to scale up production and deployment of SAF as we continue to work towards achieving our decarbonization goals and developing a more sustainable industry.”
Airbus’ investment is part of LanzaJet’s recent funding round, which has included support from leading companies across industries and around the world. In recent months, LanzaJet has announced investments from leaders across the SAF value chain, including Southwest Airlines, Microsoft, Groupe ADP, MUFG and now Airbus.
“Sustainable aviation fuels are one of the key enablers of decarbonising aviation, but their production is still limited. Our collaboration with LanzaJet demonstrates Airbus’ commitment to working with leading energy technology providers to explore innovative production options and bring SAF to scale,” said Julie Kitcher , Chief Sustainability Officer at Airbus. “This important partnership with LanzaJet underscores the importance of new technologies and cross-sector collaboration to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
In addition to Airbus, LanzaJet now also has All Nippon Airways (ANA), Breakthrough Energy, British Airways, Groupe ADP, LanzaTech, Microsoft's Climate Innovation Fund, Mitsui & Co, MUFG, Shell, Southwest Airlines and Suncor Energy as investors and financiers.
LanzaJet is at the forefront of developing next-generation sustainable fuel technology and is currently starting up the world’s first commercial ethanol-to-SAF production at LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels. The landmark facility in the United States will produce SAF and renewable diesel from low-carbon, sustainable ethanol and serves as a blueprint to scale SAF production and combat the growing climate crisis. With projects in 25 countries and 5 continents, LanzaJet is working to scale ethanol-to-jet globally. Collaboration with key players in the SAF value chain is key to that mission.
