L2 Consulting Services, Inc. Adds ACARS Interface To STC For Iridium Satellite Communication System On Boeing 757 Aircraft
Austin, TX - L2 Consulting Services, Inc. (L2) is pleased to announce that the Federal Aviation Administration has approved the company's Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) revision for Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) with optional cockpit and cabin handsets for International Communication Group's (ICG) ICS-120 Iridium Communication System. The STC (ST10610SC) is applicable to Boeing 757-200/200PF/200CB/300 series aircraft.
Armin Jabs, President of ICG said, "We wish to congratulate L2 on the success they have achieved with the addition of ACARS to their B757 ICS-120 Iridium STC approval. L2 and ICG have endeavored to develop and provide an Iridium based flight deck Datalink service for the Air Transport industry."
ACARS over Iridium Datalink provides character-based data connectivity for aviation data services to include automatic terminal information service (ATIS), weather reports, and text messaging. When outside of VHF range, Iridium Satellites allow world-wide connectivity directly through the crew's cockpit multifunctional control display unit (MCDU).
"It was important to add a seamless Datalink to the existing Iridium STC, enabling the flight crew to automatically stay in contact with flight operations anywhere in the world," said Mark Lebovitz, L2's President.
The ICS-120 is a single channel communication system that is certified for cockpit communications using a telephone dialer adapter or dedicated handsets in the cockpit and cabin.
