Houghton Announces New Line of Surface Finishing Products for the Metal Remanufacturing Industry

VALLEY FORGE, PA, June 2, 2003 - Houghton International's Surface Finishing division has announced a line of products that are ideal for reconditioning metal parts including engine and power components for the aerospace industry. These products enable the manufacturing industry to produce superior reconditioned parts and components made of aluminum and stainless alloys, aluminum and magnesium castings, and titanium.

Houghton designed this line of cleaners, strippers and brightening products to cost-effectively remove oil, grease, paint, dirt, carbonized and burned-on petroleum by-products that result form engine operation. During this chemical cleaning and stripping process, components such as heads, motor blocks, manifolds, transmissions, housings, pistons, and connectivity rods are deoxidized and restored to a like-new condition. Houghton's product line includes: Houghto-Clean 5610, Houghto-Strip 5941, Houghto-Strip 5925, Tec Strip 2, Add 20 and Carfa-Kleen 5380. Houghton will work with customers to evaluate their existing process, recommend appropriate products, and perform ongoing testing and process control.

Houghton's product line has worked effectively in reconditioning aerospace engines and propulsion components. These products can completely remove soils from turbines, rotors, fuel system and other critical system components.

"The remanufacturing industry reconditions parts and components that are commonly used in engine and power components. These parts and components take a beating from the harsh environment in which they work, and are covered with all kinds of burned-on grime," said Joe Smith, Marketing Manager for Houghton's Conversion Coatings product line "Using Houghton's products, remanufactures can restore products to a "like-new" condition. Houghton can work with them to make sure they get the reconditioning results they require as cost-effectively and in as few steps as possible. Since Houghton develops the very products that need to be removed - like metalworking cleaners, lubricants, heat treating products, and hydraulic fluids - we have the know-how to recommend optimum solutions."
