GTE Granted EU Patent For On-Wing Turbine Wash Technology

Gas Turbine Efficiency plc, a leading manufacturer of advanced systems to clean, monitor and enhance the performance of aviation and industrial turbines, is pleased to announce that it has been granted a European Patent concerning its advanced on-wing aviation wash systems.

A patent application entitled "Universal Manifold System for Washing an Aero Gas Turbine" Patent was filed on 8 June 2005 and was awarded to GTE, effective 22 November 2007. The patent relates to key parts in the design of GTE's highly environmentally-friendly aviation wash systems. These systems have been deployed on a wide range of aircraft engine designs through GTE's exclusive aviation partner, Pratt & Whitney, and have delivered validated reductions in carbon emissions, fuel costs, engine downtime and longer parts life.

Key features of the systems include a universal manifold, automated positioning, 100% capture of effluent and treatment, allowing closed loop washing at the gate. Using GTE's systems, major airlines have achieved fuel savings of up to 1%, turbine wash times of as low as 30 minutes per engine and carbon dioxide reductions of 3.1 kilograms for every 1 kilogram of fuel saved.

Steven Zwolinski, Chief Executive Officer of GTE, commented: "We are delighted to be granted this European patent for our world-class aviation wash systems. The patent strengthens GTE's intellectual property position in the design of turbine wash systems, which set the benchmark for delivering highly environmentally-friendly and value enhancing solutions for aircraft operators worldwide."
