FIREROK™ Cement Is Selected By The Royal Air Force For Severe Thermal Exposure Applications

Alexandria, VA (Marketwire) - CERATECH Inc's durable, high thermal resistant FIREROK™ cement for structural concrete made it the product of choice for the Royal Air Force's (RAF) V-22 Osprey aircraft's concrete hardstand and apron construction project at RAF Mildenhall, in Suffolk, England.

Specialty Products Inc., Material and Technical Support Supplier to VolkerFitzpatrick, General Contractor for the project, identified key attributes of FIREROK™ cement for meeting demanding job specifications. "The Osprey vertical takeoff demands concrete capable of withstanding 550 degrees F temperatures. We evaluated products that could meet that type of extreme specification. CERATECH's FIREROK™ was the only product we found that met and exceeded those requirements," explained Tres Swann, President, Specialty Products, Inc. He added, "Additional specifications called for long term resistance to hydraulic fluids and other hydrocarbons. FIREROK™'s corrosion resistance was again a perfect match for this extreme military environment."

FIREROK™ cement for structural concrete withstands intermittent temperatures as high as 1850 degrees F, and sustained temperatures up to 570 degrees F, without significant loss of strength. In contrast, portland cement concrete begins to break down when exposed to temperatures above 250 degrees F. All CERATECH cements are comprised of a dense crystalline structure which dramatically improves thermal resistance. The denser bonding also reduces permeability, making them significantly more durable in caustic and corrosive chemical environments.

John Hyman, CERATECH's CEO, explained, "We've had great success in working with the military and the Department of Defense on a number of projects. FIREROK™ is being used at installations in the US, England, and the Mid-east. The combined thermal and corrosion resistance of FIREROK™ makes it a perfect fit for extreme conditions and its durability provides a lifecycle 3-5 times longer than any portland product."

CERATECH Inc. offers the first commercialized green cements to the marketplace. CERATECH's cements consist of 95% recycled fly ash and 5% renewable materials. By comparison, no carbon dioxide is generated in the production of CERATECH cement, while production of portland cement generates about one ton of CO2 for each ton of portland cement produced. For every ton of portland cement displaced by CERATECH, one ton of CO2 is eliminated. CERATECH cements are available as a bulk cement, in super sacks, and as packaged concrete repair mixes.
