The LTR-97 fiber optic vertical gyro/directional gyro (VG/DG) replacement system is designed to replace older, mechanical gyros found in B-727, -737, DC-9, and MD-8X aircraft. It uses fiber optic gyro (FOG) technology in a strapdown configuration to provide aircraft attitude and heading data with up to ten times the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of mechanical units. The system uses existing aircraft power and requires no changes to aircraft wiring.
