Embedded Conference Spring Returns to Chicago

The 1999 Embedded Systems Conference Spring, running from March 1-4, 1999 at McCormick Place South in Chicago, will feature 80 classes and seven tutorials which address the new technologies in the embedded development industry.

A three-day exhibition of products and services for engineers and designers opens on Tues. March 2, providing conference attendees with a hands-on opportunity to experience new technologies. With a ten percent increase in show floor space from the previous year, more than 180 vendors are expected to participate in this year's exhibition.

The conference opens on Mon., March 1, with all-day tutorials on such topics as system design, DSP architectures, and real-time, unified modeling language. Regular 90 minute conference sessions begin on Tues., March 2 and run through Thurs., March 4.

Classes offered for the first time at the Embedded Systems Conference Spring include:

  • Embedded Java: New Options and New Challenges
  • Developing Windows CE Systems
  • Web Based Device Monitoring and Control
  • Building Appropriate Networking Capabilities in Embedded Systems
  • Embedded Systems in the Automotive Industry

New classes are available on topics such as designing portable parallel algorithms, object oriented technology in telecommunication systems, and exploring the x86 CPU family.

The conference features a faculty of 73 experts on embedded systems. These include speakers such as Tom Cantrell, West Coast editor of CIRCUIT CELLAR INK; Bruce Douglass, technical marketing manager for I-Logix; Dan Saks, president of Saks & Associates; and Jim Turley, senior editor of MICROPROCESSOR REPORT.

Each day of the conference begins with "Birds of a Feather" discussion groups, where attendees meet and share their opinions on current trends and experiences with specific projects. Other special conference events include a keynote speech by Bjarne Stroustrup, a welcome reception on Tuesday evening, and a special guest lecture by Hector de J. Ruiz on Wednesday evening.

The Embedded Systems Conference is produced by Miller Freeman, Inc. and is sponsored by EMBEDDED SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING magazine.
