Digital Valve
The valves are controlled by either air actuated or electronically operated solenoid cylinders. Since the orifices change state (open or closed) simultaneously, the time required to adjust to the desired flow rate is 100 milliseconds or less, 20 times faster than can be achieved with analog valves.
The valves are suitable to Feed Forward control strategies, where the desired flow rate is sent to the valve from a computer, and that flow rate is achieved. This is an alternative to more traditional closed loop (or Feed Back) control strategy where the flow rate is determined, and then the analog valves are adjusted upward or downward until the desired flow rate is achieved.
Digital Valves have a range of applications including pressure testing of airplane fuselages to the effect pressure changes have during simulated airplane takeoffs and landings.
