The Cincinnati Gear Company was founded in 1907 to serve the rapidly expanding machine tool industry in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Over the years, Cincinnati Gear's products expanded to include the design and manufacture of custom power transmission components and gearboxes for a variety of industrial and marine applications. With the acquisition of BHS-Cincinnati Getriebetechnik GmbH in 1996, Cincinnati Gear has become one of the world's largest designers and manufacturers of high-power, high-speed gear units. The combined companies have over 500 employees and manufacturing space that exceeds 350,000 square feet.

Cincinnati Gear produces gear units for a variety of applications, including wind turbines, off-road equipment, mining equipment, pumps and compressors, machine tools, locomotives, and marine craft. With three plant locations in the U.S., and the BHS-Cincinnati facility in Germany, Cincinnati Gear is well equipped to handle the complete design and manufacture of such a wide range of gearboxes and power transmission components. The facilities have capabilities include turning, hobbing, tooth grinding, heat treating, fabrication, assembly and testing. The extensive testing experience includes full load testing capability to over 50,000 HP (37,000 kW).

In addition to the dynamic engineering, design and manufacturing capabilities, Cincinnati Gear has a strong customer service and rebuild base. With a large inventory of spare parts in stock and a worldwide field service network, the service and rebuild center has the ability to rebuild gearboxes and return them to the customer with minimal downtime.
