Avtech acquires SELCAL system manufacturer Coltech

Avtech Corp. (Seattle, WA) announced it has acquired Coltech Inc. (Phoenix, AZ), an aviation calling and data systems company.

Coltech's SELCAL decoders relieve flight crews from having to continuously monitor the radio. Airlines are required to maintain two-way radio contact with their aircraft, but congestion on the designated frequencies can present operational problems. To solve this problem, SELCAL assigns a unique code to each aircraft. When flight crews receive this code, they are alerted that someone wants to communicate with them on the associated VHF or HF radio.

Because audio systems typically interface with SELCAL, Avtech says the acquisition will lead to a natural extension of its own product lines. The SELCAL decoders are expected to be transitioned into Avtech's Seattle manufacturing facilities by the end of the year.

Products from Avtech, a DeCrane Aircraft Holdings company, include audio control systems, PA and cabin interphones, cabin and flightdeck lighting systems, and power conversion devices.
