Automated Installation System for EMI Gaskets

W.L. Gore & AssociatesRESCENDO Installation System is used for automatic and accurate installation of GORE-SHIELD EMI Gaskets. The system is designed for high volume application of EMI shielding gaskets, protective acoustic covers and thermal interface products used in hand-held portable devices such as cellular phones. It features installation rates of up to 12 cycles per minute.

The system operates using reels of die-cut GORE-SHIELD EMI Gaskets that are supplied on a polyester carrier web. Gaskets are automatically peeled from the reel, exposing the gasket's integral conductive pressure sensitive adhesive. The vacuum head then accurately tamps the gasket on to the target assembly. Pressure is applied evenly on every cycle, ensuring consistent activation of the adhesive and high installation quality.

The basic gasket merge station is mounted against a rotating dial table, which has separate load and unload stations protected by a light curtain. This allows for a single operator to safely load fresh products, and also to unload finished assemblies while the gaskets are being applied at the merge station.

The dial table concept allows for full integration of the system into an automated assembly line with robotic loading. Modular tooling concepts allow the system to be quickly changed over to different product models for flexible manufacturing.
