ARINC And Transtech Collaborate To Deliver New 'Intelligent Airport' Technology
Annapolis, MD - ARINC Incorporated, a leading global provider of aviation communications, and Transtech Control, Ltd., the world's leading provider of airfield control systems, today announced they will jointly market Transtech's integrated airport surface surveillance system—the Intelligent Airport—in Europe.
Intelligent Airport is a highly innovative approach to Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A-SMGCS). Exclusive data fusion technologies overcome the blind spots, multipath, and radar inaccuracies inherent in traditional ground surveillance systems. Intelligent Airport can improve surface safety, increase capacity, and reduce workloads by giving controllers, ramp managers, and airport operators improved tools to fully monitor and control surface movement.
Displays include standard 2-D and high-fidelity 3-D views that depict aircraft and vehicle traffic on runways, taxiways, ramps, and gates. Full integration provides superior surveillance, control, guidance, and routing capability using a full suite of planning, optimization and management tools. Modular design allows covering "hot spots" first, and adding secondary areas and enhanced sub-systems according to needs or budgets.
With its consistent and comprehensive real-time picture of airport surface areas, Intelligent Airport supports implementation of the much-sought-after Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) initiative, recommended by Eurocontrol as the primary method of meeting demands for increased airport throughput while increasing airport safety. ARINC and Transtech plan to demonstrate Intelligent Airport February 1-3 at the 2005 ATC Maastricht Air Traffic Control trade show, Booths 524 and 404.
"Only Intelligent Airport bridges the gap between the increasing demands of busy airports and the limited ability of current systems to monitor surface movements, to prevent runway incursion and enhance capacity. No other solution on the market has the potential to solve these challenges more effectively," stated Graham Lake, ARINC Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
"We are confident the alliance between ARINC and Transtech will offer additional combinations of innovative technologies, with the support required by mission-critical systems. Together we can offer cost-effective solutions for airfield safety and airport management, combining surveillance with a variety of communication capabilities," said Dr. Josh Hurewitz Transtech Vice President for Strategy & Business Development.
