MAR 18, 1999, M2 Communications - LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- AlliedSignal Technical Services Corporation has been awarded a seven-year, $324-million contract by NASA to operate the White Sands Test Facility, America's premier installation to test and evaluate rocket propulsion systems, materials and other components vital to the U.S. space program.

AlliedSignal will staff and operate a number of major functions at this facility, including tests of rocket propulsion fuel and fuel/air mixtures that are critical to the safe introduction and ongoing use of propellants. AlliedSignal will test a wide array of spacecraft hardware, including life cycle tests of the Space Shuttle Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS), Reaction Control System (RCS) and other Shuttle flight hardware systems. Among the key projects will be ongoing support of flight and ground tests of the prototype X-34 reusable space shuttle at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico.

AlliedSignal has been the prime contractor of the White Sands Test Facility since 1994.

"AlliedSignal is proud that it will continue to provide state-of-the-art research, development, test and evaluation of spacecraft systems and components, as well as laboratory testing of materials, for America's space program," said Ivan Stern, president and chairman of the board of AlliedSignal Technical Services. "Our strong partnership with NASA at the White Sands Test Facility has already led to ISO9001 certification here and the first ever Hammer Award given jointly to a government-industry team," he said.

The AlliedSignal subcontracting team at White Sands includes L&M Technologies Inc. and Lynx, Ltd. L&M Technologies will provide logistics, engineering drafting and construction, technology information, facilities maintenance and operations. Lynx will provide environmental services.
