Air Malta Selects the Hamilton Sundstrand APS 3200 Auxiliary Power Unit
SAN DIEGO, April 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems, also known as APIC, today announced that Air Malta has selected the APS 3200 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) as the APU of choice for its fleet of twelve A320/A319 aircraft, which will be delivered starting in December. Including product support, the contract has a potential value of $20 million over the life of the program.
The APS 3200 APU is currently onboard more than 850 Airbus A320 aircraft around the world, and has accumulated more than 6 million hours and 7 million cycles since entering service on the Airbus A320 family of aircraft.
According to Air Malta, the selection was partly based on the demonstrated reliability of APIC's APS 2000 APU installed on three of Air Malta's current B737-300 fleet, the low technical risk and proven reliability of the APS 3200, a comprehensive 10-year Product Support Agreement and good after-sales customer support experienced on the APS 2000.
Tim Morris, APIC's president, noted that the proven in-service reliability of the APS 3200 continues to be a significant factor in the airlines' selection process, and key to the capture of a substantial market share on single-aisle Airbus aircraft. "I'm very pleased that the excellent relationship APIC has established with Air Malta over the last 10 years has carried forward with their selection of the APS 3200."
Air Malta, headquartered in Luqa, Malta, has a fleet of 13 aircraft and recently announced that it would be introducing five new routes on its summer flight schedule, including service to St. Petersburg, Madrid, Helsinki, Bucharest and Porto. For more information, visit http://www.airmalta.com/
