Advanced Composite Tooling: Design and Fabrication

Source: Abaris Training Resources, Inc.
This course covers the fundamentals of composite tooling including design, fabrication, materials, processing, costs from plans to parts, fabrication of carbon fiber and fiberglass tools (molds), as well as tool repair
This nine-day workshop provides a foundation of technical information and develops hands-on skills in the fabrication of tooling (molds) for advanced composite components.

This course teaches, through actual practice, the fabrication of tools typically made from fiberglass or carbon fiber. These tools are made to match the thermal characteristics of the parts being made, and are suitable for use in an oven or autoclave environment.

This is primarily a hands-on workshop. Enough time is spent in the classroom to develop an understanding of the basics, but most of the learning comes through actual fabrication. State-of-the-art low temperature curing prepreg materials are used to fabricate all of the tools. The tooling procedures taught are applicable to either high-volume production tooling or one-time repair tooling.
