Dayton-Granger Inc.50-3A transceiver features a water-activated battery with a minimum shelf life rating of three years. The company says operational experience with water-activated batteries in emergency beacons indicates this rating is conservative and shelf life under proper conditions can be longer. The unit is suitable for life-raft use because it is activated by filling the battery module with water. Fresh water activates the unit within five minutes. Expected battery life is 10 hours. When in use, operating life of the battery may be extended by changing water hourly after use.
