Toronto, ON Canada - (Marketwired) - Sunwing's first aircraft with the fuel efficiency Split Scimitar Winglets designed by Aviation Partners Boeing is officially in service as of last Friday. This technology improves performance of the aircraft and decreases fuel burn by approximately seven per cent over the same aircraft with no Winglets.

Sunwing is the first airline in Canada and the second in the world to commercially fly the second generation Split Scimitar Blended Winglets and will retrofit its entire fleet of Boeing 737-800 with this new technology by the end of May.

"We feel we have a responsibility as a market leader in Canada to continue investing in technology which reduces our environmental impact," says Mark Williams, President of Sunwing Airlines. "Sunwing has the lowest CO2 emissions per seat mile of any major airline in Canada and this new initiative will lower our emissions even further."

Aviation Partners Boeing is a Seattle based joint venture of Aviation Partners, Inc. and The Boeing Company. Nearly 5,000 first generation Blended Winglet Systems are now in service with over 200 airlines in more than 100 countries. APB estimates that Blended Winglets have saved airlines worldwide more than 3.8 billion gallons of jet fuel to-date. For more information visit www.aviationpartnersboeing.com.
