DapTechnology Releases Extended Version Of FireLink 1394b Link Layer Controller IP Core

Nijmegen, The Netherlands - DapTechnology, a world-leading supplier of advanced IEEE 1394 technology solutions to the aerospace, defense, industrial, automotive and consumer electronics markets announced recently the availability of the FireLink Extended 1394b Link Layer IP Core product. FireLink, implemented in industry-standard VHDL code, is available initially for Xilinx FPGA devices and soon for Altera. The product is targeted at applications requiring up to 800 Mbits/Sec of bandwidth and embedded designs requiring a high performance general purpose IEEE 1394b Link Layer Controller.

Currently, the FireLink IEEE 1394b Link Layer IP Core products provide the facilities for transmitting and receiving 1394 packets, including asynchronous, isochronous and PHY packets, at speeds up to 800Mb/s. Future FireLink enhancements will enable support for 1.6 and 3.2 Gbits/Sec speeds. DapTechnology markets two versions (Basic & Extended) of the FireLink 1394b Link Layer Controller IP Core. The FireLink Basic version is optimized for small core sizes, while the FireLink Extended version, which leverages on OHCI-compatible DMA transfer technology, is optimized for high throughput applications.

"Scalability coupled with a high performance DMA architecture answers the call for bandwidth-hungry IEEE 1394b applications," says Cor Jansen, CTO of DapTechnology. Mr. Jansen adds, "The FireLink Extended IEEE 1394b Link Layer Controller IP core provides an additional 1394 building block which aids in accelerating and simplifying the IEEE 1394b solution development process."

The FireLink Basic & FireLink Extended IEEE 1394b Link Layer IP Cores and Evaluation Kits are currently shipping. Additional information on FireLink products and DapTechnology may be obtained by visiting www.daptechnology.com or by sending an e-mail to info@daptechnology.com.
