The IFQT is inserted in series with the existing fuel quantity wiring. The system measures the fuel quantity using existing in-tank hardware. The fuel quantity data is passed through an isolation barrier to special circuitry that drives the existing fuel quantity hardware to display the correct fuel quantity.

The system is designed for installation in a series of discrete steps. Each step is accomplished during the normal aircraft overnight time, allowing a return to service the next day.
