The FlyTimer ACARS transceiver is a hand-held portable unit that uses either the aircraft auxiliary power or a self-contained backup battery. The transceiver consists of a 760-channel VHF radio, ACARS processor and 12-channel GPS. The display unit, a Palm IIIc, is mounted on the yoke. The only aircraft installation required is an exterior VHF antenna. The transceiver also can be connected so some existing cockpit displays. Production units are expected to be available by the end of 2000.
