Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)

Garmin Ltd. is pleased to offer pilots improved GPS accuracy for its GPSMAP 295 by enabling the popular portable to accept enhanced position data from the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS).

In August 2000, the FAA approved WAAS for VFR use only. One of the greatest benefits of WAAS is enhanced vertical navigation. The system has yet to be certified for IFR flight.

With WAAS enabled on their GPSMAP 295, VFR pilots will notice an observable improvement in GPS altitude readings on a brilliant color moving map for incredible situational awareness. Pilots can see their position over landmarks using the GPSMAP 295's built-in basemap, while viewing critical Jeppesen data on its unique moving map/HSI split screen. Pilots can also move the GPSMAP 295 from the cockpit to their car for easy navigation down the highway using any number of mapping products from GARMIN's exclusive MapSource line.

Garmin has already made its WAAS solution available to GPSMAP 295 owners as a software update on its corporate website.
