Rockwell Collins Engineer Receives Volare Award For MultiScan Radar

Cedar Rapids, IO -- Roy Robertson, principal systems engineer at Rockwell Collins, has received the 2005 Volare Award in the Avionics Manufacturer category from the Airline Avionics Institute (AAI).

Robertson was cited for his work on the WXR-2100 MultiScan Hazard Weather Detection System. He was selected by a committee of his peers from a list of candidates nominated throughout the worldwide avionics community. AAI called him the company's technical "voice and face" of radar for the past 20 years.

Robertson has been a key contributor in developing MultiScan - a fully automatic radar that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by reducing unexpected turbulence encounters. MultiScan provides optimal weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.

A University of Nebraska graduate, Robertson has worked for Rockwell Collins since 1973.

AAI is a non-profit corporation made up of avionics manufacturers and service providers. Prior to this year's selections, AAI has presented 211 Volare Awards since 1968.
